A letter from the Chairman of the Alzheimers Disease International (ADI)

September 14th, 2012

World Alzheimer’s Day 2012 message

World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September has been a landmark date worldwide for the past 17 years, but never more so than this year when it becomes the pinnacle of the first ever global World Alzheimer’s Month.

It is hugely inspiring for me, the ADI staff and our colleagues around the world to see the numerous activities and events organised by national Alzheimer associations, our members, both during the Month and on World Alzheimer’s Day. The commitment shown, particularly over this period, is a true reflection of the hard work and unyielding effort that goes into the dementia movement on an international national, regional and local level.

The World Alzheimer Report 2012 will be launched on World Alzheimer’s Day and will highlight the stigma associated with dementia worldwide and how this can be addressed. We hope that this report will support and compliment the work of our member associations in their efforts to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and carers on World Alzheimer’s Day and in the future.

On behalf of all at ADI, I wish you a very successful World Alzheimer’s Day 2012. We are confident that positive results will be seen for many years to come.

With kindest regards,

Dr. Jacob Roy Kuriakose
Chairman
Alzheimer’s Disease International
